Something big is commissioned!
Vifor wind farm enters operation!
I love my job.
And days like today remind me exactly why.
My work gives me the opportunity to be part of some truly unique projects that are transforming the energy sector. Today was one of those days – I had the pleasure of attending the official inauguration of the VIFOR wind farm in Romania.
Once its second phase is completed next year, VIFOR will become the third-largest onshore wind farm in the EU, with a total installed capacity of 461 MW.
And the scale is genuinely impressive.
There is a reason I look like an ant in the photo next to one of the turbines. Each turbine has a 166-metre tower and 81-metre blades, with an installed capacity of 6.4 MW. Its foundations go approximately 3.5 metres underground and measure roughly 30 × 30 metres.
And when the wind really blows? The tower can move sideways by as much as 1.5 metres.
Trust me – that is probably not the moment when you want to be inside the tiny service lift you can also see in the photo. 😊
The scale of the entire site is equally remarkable: approximately 25 × 9 kilometres. And yet, the land continues to be used for grazing – something we could see first-hand today, with herds of cows, sheep and horses peacefully grazing around the turbines.
For an energy person, it is simply beautiful.
But what makes today particularly special is knowing how much work, how many challenges – and, frankly, how many “birth pains” – stood behind getting this project built.
So, hats off to the entire Rezolv Energy team and the commander in chief Alastair Hammond, all the contractors and suppliers who made it happen, and a big thank you to all the stakeholders who supported the project along the way. And my personal deepest thank to Korpanec, Jaroslava to bring me to her great team!
Projects like VIFOR are a great reminder that the energy transition is not only about strategies, targets and legislation. Ultimately, it is about turning plans into real infrastructure – megawatt by megawatt, turbine by turbine.
And what better way to finish?
May the sun shine and the wind blow – especially over our portfolio! 😉☀️💨
